Project Re-Use

About The Hockey Dreams Foundation:

The Hockey Dreams Foundation aims to enable a better future through hockey. They do this by developing sustainable hockey communities. The hockey pitch provides a background for local learning opportunities. Coaches and kids from underprivileged communities with challenging circumstances come together through their shared passion for hockey. Together they play, share, learn and grow. Hockey Dreams Foundation is there to assist youth in realizing their ambitions for a better future. The players and coaches of today, gain the confidence and competences to be the game changers of tomorrow.

Why collaborate with Hockey Dreams?

  • Otter Hockey's mission is to provide the best equipment on the market to our players. This equipment has to be affordable.

  • But what about those that can't even afford affordable sticks?

  • This had to be addressed, and that is why we are collaborating with Hockey Dreams.

What are we doing with Hockey Dreams?

  • We are taking pre-owned equipment that is no longer needed within our community.

  • Providing coaches in need of equipment within Malawi, Zambia and Uganda, with this equipment.

  • The equipment we are collecting is from donations by the Hockey Community.

How you, the community can help those most in need:

  1. Get in touch with us and tell us what equipment you wish to donate.

  2. Send or drop off your equipment to us!

  3. Tag us on Instagram with a picture of your equipment so we can get the word out there!

What this collaboration achieves:

Through Project Re-Use, children in Zambia, Uganda and Malawi are able to play hockey and learn about the sport!

Here is a visualisation of how Hockey Dreams Foundation has impacted their Sustainable Hockey Communities!

Our collaboration and its Positive Impact on the Environment

1. What are hockey sticks made from?

Hockey sticks are predominantly made from Carbon Fibre and sometimes wood. Carbon Fibre is incredibly strong and stiff.

It is made from organic polymers meaning it is difficult to recycle.

2. Equipment and its potential to be re-used

Unless the stick is broken or severely damaged, there is still potential for it to be used in training or games.

However, due to supply and demand being so high in the sports equipment industry new sticks are always being designed, produced and bought. While old sticks get forgotten about and left to gather dust in the corner.

3. How we are helping the environment?

If we can gather and redistribute old sticks that our players are no longer using, we feel that we can positively impact the environment by giving hockey sticks a much longer product lifecycle.
